Interactive kitchen design is a popular option today for individuals who are considering either a total or partial makeover of their kitchen area. "Interactive" means that you, the homeowner can interact -- either with your designer or even a computer program -- trying out various options in the design, layout and arrangement of items in your kitchen, to see how they will look. Here are some things to keep in mind as you do your planning --
First of all, keep in mind the total amount of space which you have to work with. No interactive kitchen design can actually increase the room size, just what goes into it (or what comes out of it). Also, when doing your interactive kitchen design planning, keep in mind just what you use your kitchen for. Are you a caterer, or do you give parties and receptions -- or do you have a large family? These individuals will need a larger, and much more elaborate kitchen then someone who lives in an apartment by themselves and only prepares small meals.
Another thing to consider as you do your interactive kitchen design planning is the amount and types of kitchen appliances that you will need. Major kitchen appliances take up a great deal of space, and the proper placement of these appliances will affect the kinds of kitchen design options that are available to you.
A third factor which will affect the interactive kitchen design will be whether or not you use your kitchen for other activities. For example, some homemakers also use their kitchen for doing sewing -- or the kids may need space in your kitchen to complete their homework after school each afternoon. You need to make sure that your chosen kitchen design includes enough space for you to be comfortable in doing these activities in addition to preparing and eating meals.
Speaking of eating in kitchens, not every family does this. In some families, all meals are taken in a dining room or family room. But if you will be serving and eating meals in your kitchen, then you will need to allow extra space for a kitchen table or breakfast nook -- or perhaps even an island -- when you carry out your interactive kitchen design. In some homes and apartments washers and dryers are also found there -- so you'll need to make sure you have enough space for these appliances as well, if you must do your laundry as well as your cooking in the kitchen.
Finally, consider any design elements that cannot be changed. For example, in many homes plumbing fixtures -- faucets, sinks, etc. -- cannot be moved without great inconvenience or expense. If you are not able to move your plumbing fixtures, then your interactive kitchen design must "work around" these areas and not obstruct them. The same also goes for electrical and gas lines as well -- if you can't afford to move them, then you must make use of them right where they are located.

Some of the software is difficult at first, but once you get the hand of its really fun. I'm working on designing my dream kitchen with software.

I really like the design programs that you find on the Internet but most of them are really confusing. They say they are easy to use but I just must be computer illiterate because they seem very hard to me.
